Student project for the Festival of Lights in three European cities
October 4 to 11, 2024 in Leipzig
Lyon, December 1-10, 2024
February 5 to 10, 2025 in Barcelona

(De)construct is a Franco-German-Spanish project focusing on European memory and civil resistance movements against oppression. 90 young people from 3 countries come together to create a Dance and Light performance to be presented as part of the light festivals in Leipzig, Lyon and Barcelona. The aim is to offer European audiences a dance performance that combines light and sound with a reflection on European memory and values.

In October 2024, young participants from the 3 countries met in Leipzig to work on the creation of the Danse et Lumière performance. Students from Lyon in the DNMADE Lighting Management program at the Lycée Branly and in Sound Design at ENSATT are working with young dancers from the Désoblique (Lyon), Tanz Zentrale (Leipzig) and MOVEO (Barcelona) schools of dance & physical theater. The first performance took place on October 9 as part of the Lichtfest Leipzig.

The second performance is scheduled for Lyon’s Fête des Lumières from December 5 to 8, 2024. Students from a variety of disciplines and countries will be on hand to support the event.

Finally, the young artists are performing for the third time at the LLUM Festival in Barcelona (February 7-9, 2025).

Artistic direction of the project is provided by Benjamin Nesme (lighting designer), Marc Sicard (designer) and Natacha Paquignon (choreographer).
